Junior Software Engineer - Java/React (all genders)
Software Engineering · Full-time
Munich, Germany
AI has changed what it means to be a software engineer. Writing code has gotten easier; what matters more is understanding a real problem, deciding how to solve it, and making sure the solution gets used.
At revel8, you’ll own customer problems from first conversation to working solution. How can we help employees recognize malicious calls? How do we simulate the latest phishing attacks? You’ll dig in, choose your approach, build it, and follow through until customers use it successfully.
You won’t do it alone. Experienced engineers will challenge your thinking, review your work, and help you build the judgment that ownership requires. With around 60 people in one office, you’re never far from the customer or from colleagues happy to help you grow.
What your day-to-day will look like:- Owning customer problems: You take responsibility for real problems our customers face. You talk to them, work with Go To Market and Customer Success, and figure out what needs solving before deciding what to build.
- Choosing the solution: You have the freedom to decide how to solve a problem, whether that’s a new feature, a change to an existing one, or no code at all. You make the case for your approach and own the trade-offs.
- Building with or without AI: We embrace AI coding tools to move fast across our Java and React stack, but they’re not our only way to solve problems. Knowing when to use AI, and when a whiteboard, a customer call, or your own thinking works better, is part of the job.
- Driving adoption: Shipping isn’t the finish line. You follow up with users, watch how your solution is used, and iterate until it truly solves the problem.
- Owning quality: You review, test, and debug code, both AI-generated and human-written, and learn to spot what’s subtly wrong, insecure, or overcomplicated. In cybersecurity, that instinct matters.
- Growing with support: In a startup, everyone pulls in the same direction, so nobody succeeds alone. Since we work together in our Munich office every day, getting help is as easy as turning your chair around, and you learn a lot just by being around experienced engineers. Code reviews and pairing are part of the routine, and there’s always a colleague happy to think a problem through with you.
You…
Have a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or have built real things another way (projects, open source, work experience).
Have solid fundamentals in an object-oriented language, ideally Java, and understand how web applications fit together.
Have used AI coding tools and have opinions about where they help and where they don’t.
Want to own outcomes, not just tasks, and are comfortable making decisions and learning from the ones that don’t work out.
Ask “why?” before “how?”, and enjoy talking to users and colleagues to get to the real problem.
Communicate clearly in English. German is a plus, not a requirement, and our French engineers would love a few more people to chat with ;)
Nice to have, but we’re happy to help you learn:
React or Angular
SQL and relational databases
Spring Boot
