The role

As a Founding Backend Engineer & Tech Lead at Frieda, you will have the opportunity to work closely with our frontend team, product managers, UX/UI designers, medical and regulatory experts during an exciting phase of innovation and growth, building and shaping our new eHealthcare company. You will steer Frieda’s ship from the start and make a big impact on the company's development.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Design and implement the backend infrastructure for our health mobile app using Kotlin Spring, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability.
  • Lead the management of our cloud infrastructure and deployment processes using Terraform, adopting best practices for infrastructure as code (IaC).
  • Bring your expertise in software architecture and design, leveraging your knowledge to architect robust, scalable, and maintainable systems that seamlessly integrate with our mobile app's backend infrastructure.
  • Collaborate closely with the frontend team, product managers, UX/UI designers, medical and regulatory experts to ensure seamless integration and alignment with our app’s features and objectives.
  • Spearhead the adoption of security best practices, particularly focusing on the sensitive nature of health data.
  • Drive continuous improvement by staying up-to-date with technology trends and introducing innovative solutions to enhance app performance and user experience.
  • Contribute to the strategic development of our technology stack and infrastructure, supporting the company’s long-term goals.

You'll fit great with these skills and values

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science, engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in backend development, with expertise in Kotlin.
  • Proficiency in cloud infrastructure technologies (e.g. AWS or OTC) and experience with cloud infrastructure management and Terraform.
  • Experience with containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture.
  • Deep understanding of software security practices, with a focus on protecting sensitive health data.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to enhancing app performance and user experience.
  • Analytical mindset with a strong project management skillset and an autonomous working style.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience or interest in mentoring and coaching juniors.
  • A passion for leveraging technology to improve health and well-being.
